Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions most of us make. In Barbados, it often carries something more. A first place of your own. Room for a growing family. A way back to the island after years away.

Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions most of us make. In Barbados, it often carries something more. A first place of your own. Room for a growing family. A way back to the island after years away.

Here is how buying a home in Barbados works, step by step, so you know what to expect at each stage.

By the end, you’ll know

• how buying works here, from offer to ownership
• what happens at each stage and what it means for you
• what an attorney does to protect you at each step

01

Where to start

Before you begin, get your bearings

Before you begin, get your bearings

Before you look at a single listing, it helps to think about the life you want the place to hold, not only the property itself. Where do you want to wake up. How close to family, to work, to the sea. Whether you are buying on your own, with a partner, or as a family changes what matters, and it changes the paperwork too.

There is no rush to have every answer. A first conversation is often where they start to take shape.

The process

The legal side, made simple

The legal side, made simple

Once your offer is accepted, a legal process stands between you and the keys. It is there to protect you. It confirms the seller can sell, checks that the title is clean and the boundaries are right, and sees that ownership passes to you and is registered in your name.

This is where our office steps in. We prepare and review the agreement, carry out the title searches and enquiries, and see the transfer through to recording. At each stage, you know what it means and what comes next.

“The magic of home is that it’s a destination, but also a journey.”

From abroad

Buying from overseas

Buying from overseas

Plenty of buyers are purchasing from overseas, whether they were born here or drawn to the island later. As a non resident, the process runs much the same way, with a few added steps, including approvals connected to the Central Bank of Barbados.

We handle those steps for you. And you need not be on the island to begin. Much of the early groundwork, from our first conversation to the searches, can be well underway before you ever set foot here.

When you're ready,
let’s talk.

When you're ready,
let’s talk.

Whether you are months away or ready to make an offer, the best first step is a conversation.
